Q. "What is a dental prosthetist?"
A. Dental Prosthetists are healthcare professionals who specialise in the fit and manufacturing of removable full and partial dentures. A dental prosthetist will usually begin their career as a dental technician working in a laboratory for a dentist or qualified prosthetist. After further study at university they are able to deal directly to the public and specialise in the fit and supply of removable dentures.
Q. "If I see you, who will actually make my denture?"
A. Everything is done by me on the premises.
Q. "Are there different qualities of teeth?"
A. The actual teeth are made of acrylic and there are definitely differences in quality. Some are very cheap and they wear out very quickly. Others are harder and last much longer. You cannot tell which are soft and which are hard simply by looking at them.
Q. "How do I clean my dentures?"
A. The best way is to brush them with a soft brush and hand soap. Toothpaste can be too abrasive for dentures.
Q. "Should I leave them out at night?"
A. Ideally, yes. It gives the mouth a rest from the dentures. But, if you want to leave them in that is OK too. We understand that not all people wish to sleep without their dentures in.
Q. "I'm still unsure about what I should do about my denture problems..."
A. Call me to make an appointment. I do not charge for consultations!
Q. "How do I choose a dental prosthetist?"
A. Make an appointment to see your prosthetist. Go in and have a chat. You will know straight away if you feel comfortable or not.
Q. "To me, all dentures look the same. Are they made the same way?"
A. There are many variations in the techniques used which affects the quality of the finished product. I can explain the differences to you on your first visit.
Q. "How much will my new dentures cost?"
A. Depending on what type of denture you need, I will give you a free written quote on your first visit, with absolutely no obligation.
Q. "How long do dentures last?"
A. It is recommended that your dentures be renewed, on average, every 6 -7 years with regular 12 monthly check-ups by a dental prosthetist. If you wear partial dentures, any changes to your natural teeth can affect the fit of your prosthesis, so this can determine the life of your denture. Over time your denture will show signs of wear and may require relining or remaking.
