TYPES OF DENTURES:
Full dentures: These are dentures that replace all the teeth. They can be either on the upper or lower jaw.
Partial dentures: These are dentures which fit around existing teeth. They can be made from 100% acrylic, clasp-less flexible resin, or they can have a metal frame with acrylic teeth and gum attached. In some cases a full acrylic or a flexible resin partial denture is best. Most of the time a metal frame is used because it can be made smaller and is a lot stronger. Metal partials are less prone to breakage.
Implant retained dentures: Most commonly, this is a full denture which is retained by implants. Implants are titanium screw-like fixtures that are inserted into the jaw bone. The denture will have attachments that click on and off the implants. The denture is removable, which is preferable because it allows for easy cleaning.
Immediate dentures: Immediate dentures are dentures that are put in ‘immediately’ after having a tooth or teeth extracted. The advantages of an immediate denture is you never have to be without teeth and the denture helps control the bleeding, swelling and acts as a "bandage" over the extraction sites.
