Implants are probably the most confusing topic for patients to understand. Even others in our profession can't agree on when to use implants!
I urge patients to be extremely cautious if they are thinking about getting implants. This is not to say they don't have a place in dentistry - they do! But... implants are not magic and they can fail. Case selection is critical for the dental team.
A lot of people have dentures that do not fit well or are poorly made. Often the patient is told "you have a difficult mouth" or "you just have to get used to them." Sound familiar? Then the patient is told implants will fix their problems. It might cost tens of thousands of dollars to find the answer!
The solution to poorly fitting dentures could be as simple as having the existing dentures relined or having a new set made. I believe you should start with the simplest solution first.
The chances are you don't have to have implants!
I see many patients whose dentures simply do not fit - usually from day one. Often they are told that it is their "difficult mouth" or they have to "persist with them." I invite you to see me to assess your dentures.
